on july 2nd, 2023, around 5AM, my friends' cat muffin died. she lived with them, but she was my cat, too.
we found muffin as a stray on may 16th. within an hour she was purring and headbutting us and accepting all the love we gave her. it took us a few days to name her, but muffin was my brother's suggestion early on.
in late june she was taken to the vet because she was throwing up a lot. that day we learned that 1. she was actually a boy, and 2. she had jaundice and probably got it before we even met her. pretty soon after that she stopped eating. she got quiet and lethargic, and barely left the room she slept and laid in all day.
she would leave that room to lay on the floor in the living room with us, though. and even when she stopped replying to us she'd still try to make some sort of meow when we entered the room. she was such a loving friendly cat, right from the start and all the way to the end.
i havent had a pet die in almost ten years. my first family cat gloria was hit by a car and it destroyed me. i still think about her all the time. she's my desktop wallpaper and i have a folder of every image i can find of her. now i have a muffin folder, too.
muffin was a sweetheart and a beautiful cat. she HATED being grabbed and picked up but would happily crawl on top of or lean against you and loved all other types of affection. she liked dangly toys and chased them in circles. she was SO talkative. she only ate dry kibble and catnip treats. even though we found out she's male i still mostly call her a girl. the official desicion is to call her both and switch it up at will though. muffin was a wonderful girl/boy and it hurts so much to think about how she's just gone now.
i love you muffin
